Update on Cui De Jie

De Jie’s Medical Condition

The last four weeks Cui De Jie has been in the hospital receiving his cancer treatments. His discharge had been delayed by a few days to be sure his blood counts were safe enough for him to go home for some respite before the next phase of treatment begins. Dejie’s mom has been bringing home-cooked meals of his favorite foods to the hospital every day and visits with her son during the appointed two visiting periods each week

As of today, Dejie’s blood counts are back within a safe range and he was discharged this morning to return to his new apartment in Beijing, where he will continue his recovery and wait for the next course of treatment, currently scheduled to begin around January 18. The weather in Beijing has been quite cold. It will be important for him to rest well now to avoid any infections from colds or flu that would compromise his ability to continue treatment. The Cui’s are now in a new apartment, next to the hospital, which is a warm, safe and suitable place for Dejie’s recovery.

The Family

The Cui family has now been reimbursed for all medical bills accumulated prior to AEHF’s involvement. This will now allow them to repay their friends and neighbors for the moneys borrowed to pay the initial hospital bills. It is a Chinese tradition to repay debts before the spring festival and the Cui’s are relieved to be able to do this.

Looking Forward

We are very happy to report that enough money has now been collected to cover De Jie’s foreseeable medical costs, education and the family’s associated expenses. We are so grateful to our donors for their generosity that in such a short time has given the Cui family the security to go forward with their son’s lifesaving treatment. All additional funding will allow us to extend this blessing to other children and families with similar needs.

Through our correspondence with donors and well-wishers, we have been deeply moved by the stories of other children and families whose lives have been devastated by catastrophic diseases. How much more devastating when poverty stands in the way of a potential cure. Therefore the AEHF plans to launch an ongoing campaign to help poor families in China who are facing the challenges of treating their children for major diseases such as cancer. Please accept our deepest thanks for helping to make recovery a possibility not only for Cui De Jie but hopefully for many other poor Chinese children.

With warmest regards,

The AEHF team
